Glossary of Historical Terms

Memorabilia – Sentimental reminders of celebrated events

Accession – Item received, accepted, and deeded into ownership

Artifact - Man- made item (whole or part) i.e., commencement buttons

Manuscripts - non-published material, i.e., oral interviews, biographies, organizational minutes, membership list

Ephemera - one-time, temporary, dated posters, play bills, programs, greeting cards, announcements

Culture - results from the way in which people adapt to their environment.

Heritage - is a term used interchangeably with legacy or birthright. Heritage also included cultural factors as well as historical pattern and beliefs which are transmitted from one generation to another.

Tradition - is a way of thinking or doing things by a people or civilization which has been established as a practice or custom.
